2015 ENTERING PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Dear Fellow Members,
Thank you for placing your trust in me as President and in the other newly-elected Board members to lead our Southwest Florida Chapter of HPNA into the future. It is indeed an honor to receive the baton from Lolita Melhado, our immediate past president, and an honor to serve you. She and her fellow Board members brought us so far in a short 3 years. Not only did we progress fairly rapidly from provisional group status to official chapter status, but we have continued to evolve and grow. I applaud their work and thank them.
I had the privilege in July of attending the HPNA Annual Leadership Weekend in Pittsburgh. That opportunity helped me personally to recognize the level of support the national office may offer, to be aware of the grant money available from HPNF for educational programs for our chapter, to learn about new technology that may assist our membership growth and involvement, and to meet our regional district leader and others from hospices throughout our state and country. There were excellent speakers and topics which affect all who work in hospice and palliative care and opportunities for networking and sharing of ideas.
The newly-elected Board will meet early in 2015 to discuss our shared goals for our Chapter and to plan the 2015 meeting schedule. All Board meetings are open to the membership. I believe I speak for all the Board when I ask you to continue to participate in our Chapter meetings, to share your ideas with us, and to invite all your interdisciplinary colleagues to join us. Remember, one does not have to be a national HPNA member to be a local member. Working together, we can continue on our path to meet the goals in our mission statement of furthering excellence and collaboration through education and networking.
May you have a safe and happy holiday season and a prosperous and healthy 2015. I look forward to seeing you at a meeting soon.
Mary Ann Jurek
President, SWF Chapter of HPNA
